Sellicks 1

Sellicks 2
This site offers some beautiful coastal flying for pilots of varying experience. The launch area is a fairly narrow strip of grassland with a quiet road directly behind (Sellicks 1 image), then housing beyond. Competent ground handling skills are important to fly this site to avoid ending up on the road or near the houses. Please take note of the tide before launching to ensure a beach landing is possible, should the wind drop out.
HAZARD 1 (THE ROAD) - Care should be taken when launching in stronger winds to avoid being dragged onto the road.
HAZARD 2 (POWER LINES) - There are some power lines directly behind the road on launch. Extreme caution should be taken when launching and landing.
HAZARD 3 (PINE TREE) - There is a large pine tree on launch (Sellicks 2 image) which presents a hazard when launching or landing.
HAZARD 4 (TREE PLANTINGS) - The local council has recently planted numerous trees around launch, restricting our take off & landing area. These include many wooden stakes which could cause glider damage and make top landing more difficult. Please be aware of this and plan your flight before taking off.
HAZARD 5 (THE TIDE) - Please ensure there is sufficient beach to land on before launching.

VISITING PILOTS - Please land on the beach if you are not experienced at top landings.
