Cape Jervis
-
Site rating - PG2
-
Wind direction - WSW - WNW
ATTENTION! - Excellent vertical coastal cliffs that are soarable in light conditions. Good top landing area behind rounded ridge and may also be possible to the south of the launch area when wind has a N-NW component. Avoid top landing behind vertical cliff section due to possible rotor. Good bottom landing on Morgan's Beach directly below launch (accessible by dirt road). Can do the “coast run” to Lady Bay/ Normanville in consistent WNW winds. Check availability of landings at Lady Bay/ Normanville before attempting the Coast Run. There is no direct access road to coast between Cape Jervis and Rapid Head. This can mean a long walk out, so make sure the conditions are consistent before attempting the coast run. Site Hazards - Beware stakes & tree guards & fence remnants on top landing. Beware lack of bottom landings and/or roads access to the north of launch & as far as Rapid Head, especially when attempting the coast run. This site usually only flyable during winter or early spring.

Site Details

Cape Jervis 1
This site offers safe coastal flying for all levels of pilot. The set up area is wide with plenty of space for launching and top landing (Cape Jervis 1 image). Please take note of the tide before launching to ensure a beach landing is possible, should the wind drop out.
HAZARD 1 (TREE PLANTINGS) - The local council has recently planted many new tree seedlings and although a large set up area has been left clear, many wooden stakes offer potential tearing hazards for wings
HAZARD 2 (THE TIDE) - Please ensure there is sufficient beach to land on before launching.
HAZARD 3 (WEEDS) - There are many large weeds and box thorns on this site than can catch wings and cause tangles
HAZARD 4 (FURROWS) - As part of the recent tree plantings, the council has ploughed the area and some deep furrows are still present on launch. Care should be taken to avoid catching feet in these when launching and landing.

VISITING PILOTS - Please land on the beach if you are not experienced at top landings.
